Habitat:
Locally abundant on sandstone buttes known locally as the Camel's Back, especially on the moderately steep middle portion of north- to east-facing slopes of the 100-foot high buttes. Dry prairie degraded by past grazing. Silty sand. Loose to moderately dense patches; thousands of plants. Mostly in full sun; some in partial shade of Juniperus virginiana.
