Frequent quite locally on sandstone buttes known locally as the Camel's Back. Loose patches occur on the moderately steep, northeast-facing, mid-slope of the western of three 100-foot high buttes. Dry prairie degraded by past grazing. Silty sand with scattered, small, limestone slabs and rocks. Full sun to partial shade of Juniperus virginiana.
