Habitat:
Infrequent to occasional in tamarack swamp. Patchy to quite open canopy of mature Larix laricina; abundant snags due to tree mortality in past ~10-15 years. Patchy understory of Ulmus americana, Betula papyrifera, and Alnus incana. Partial shade. Firm to buoyant wet peat.

Associates include Carex interior, C. leptalea, C. hysteracina, Aster puniceus, Senecio aureus, Cirsium muticum, Cypripedium reginae, Platanthera aquilonis, Lysimachia thyrsiflora, Mitella nuda, Ribes triste, Rhamnus alnifolia, Cornus stolonifera, Toxicodendron rydbergii.
