Locality: United States, Wisconsin, Washburn, Rolling terrain in the headwaters of Sink, Cedar, and Frog Creeks, along the Soo Line Railroad and Enbridge pipeline six miles east-northeast of Minong.

Habitat: Frequent in the wet-mesic ecotone between black ash swamp and mesic hardwood forest. Canopy locally includes Fraxinus nigra, Acer rubrum, and Populus tremuloides. Understory includes Alnus incana, Ostrya virginiana, Carpinus caroliniana, and Fraxinus nigra. Loose patches. Moist sandy soil with a rather shallow organic cap.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Anemone quinquefolia, Equisetum sylvaticum, E. arvense, Athyrium angustum, Rubus pubescens, Corylus cornuta.
