Locality: United States, Wisconsin, Washburn, Along the Namekagon River south of U.S. Highway 63, one mile south-southeast of Stanberry, six miles west-southwest of Hayward. On the north side of the river between the Soo Line Railroad and the Enbridge pipeline.

Habitat: Uncommon and sporadic in wet hardwood forest and seepage swamp. Interrupted canopy of Fraxinus nigra, Abies balsamea, Betula alleghaniensis, B. papyrifera, Acer rubrum. Understory of Alnus incana, Acer spicatum, Corylus cornuta, Fraxinus nigra. Moist organic soil. Plants <15 inches tall, heavily browsed by deer.
Associated Species: Associates include Dryopteris carthusiana, Dendrolycopodium dendroideum, Athyrium angustum, Osmunda cinnamomea, Rubus pubescens, Symplocarpus foetidus, Carex pedunculata.
