Habitat:
Uncommon and sporadic in wet hardwood forest and seepage swamp. Interrupted canopy of Fraxinus nigra, Abies balsamea, Betula alleghaniensis, B. papyrifera, Acer rubrum. Understory of Alnus incana, Acer spicatum, Corylus cornuta, Fraxinus nigra. Moist organic soil. Plants <15 inches tall, heavily browsed by deer.
