Locality: United States, Wisconsin, Douglas, Level to gently rolling terrain in the headwaters of the East Fork Moose River, five miles northwest of Solon Springs. Along the Enbridge pipeline and a major power line south of the Bennett Fire Lookout Tower site.

Habitat: Rare in cedar swamp. Partial sun to full shade beneath a canopy of mature Thuja occidentalis, with occasional Abies balsamea. Understory of Alnus incana and Fraxinus nigra. Moist peat; growing on low mossy hummocks. Few-stemmed shrubs, to ~3 feet tall. White flowers; leaves with a moderately acrid odor.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Mitella nuda, Rubus pubescens, Cypripedium parviflorum var. makasin, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Coptis trifolia, Linnaea borealis, Lonicera hirsuta, L. canadensis.
