Habitat: Occasional in alluvial wet meadow / shrub swamp. Organic clay substrate. Shallow surface water. Low shrubs, to ~30 inches tall. Lower stem often quite prickly. In full sun to partial shade of Alnus incana.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Salix planifolia, S. pedicellaris, S. lucida, S. candida, Spiraea alba, Equisetum fluviatile, Potentilla palustris, Sium suave, Calla palustris, Typha xglauca, T. angustifolia, Carex lacustris, C. rostrata, C. utriculata.
