Locality: United States, Minnesota, Fillmore, Along the upper reaches of Diamond Creek (north fork) in rugged forested terrain four miles east-southeast of Whalan, 6.5 miles east of Lanesboro.

Habitat: Frequent locally atop a narrow ridge between steep, 100-foot slopes. Gently sloping bluff top setting near the top of south-facing cliffs. Past-grazed and overgrown oak savanna (where Juniperus virginiana has recently been removed). Patchy canopy of open-grown Quercus macrocarpa. Patchy, short understory of Ostrya virginiana, Rhamnus cathartica, and Lonicera xbella. Partial shade. Rocky silt.
Associated Species: Associates include Carex cephalophora, Andropogon gerardii, Galium boreale, Smilacina stellata, Triosteum perfoliatum, Commandra umbellata, Amorpha canescens.
