Locality: United States, Minnesota, Fillmore, Along the middle reaches of Shattuck Creek, in rugged forested terrain 2.5 miles west-southwest of Choice, 7.5 miles southeast of Lanesboro.

Habitat: Quite local in a small (ΒΌ-acre) seepage meadow at the base of a moderately steep, 180-foot, south-facing bluff. Full sun to partial shade of the surrounding degraded bottomland hardwood forest. Saturated, organic, rocky, sandy silt. Small loose patches here; several dozen inflorescences. Conspicuous reddish (maroon) sheaths. Reproductive phenology is ~2 weeks ahead of Scirpus atrovirens here.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carex laevivaginata, Glyceria striata, Aster prenanthoides, Packera aurea, Barbarea vulgaris, Rumex obtusifolius, Eupatorium perfoliatum, Ranunculus hispidus.
