Locality: United States, Minnesota, Fillmore, Along the middle reaches of Shattuck Creek, in rugged forested terrain 2.5 miles west-southwest of Choice, 7.5 miles southeast of Lanesboro.

Habitat: Occasional on the lower slope of a 180-foot, southwest- to west-facing bluff. Mesic hardwood forest recovering from selective logging ~10 years ago. Canopy of immature Acer saccharum and Tilia americana. Tall and quite dense understory of Carpinus caroliniana and Acer saccharum. Often forming robust clumps with dozens of culms. Rocky (dolomitic) silt.
Associated Species: Associates include Carex hirtifolia, C. pensylvanica, C. sprengelii, Asarum canadense, Ranunculus abortivus, Geranium maculatum, Osmunda claytoniana, Thalictrum dioicum, Athyrium angustum, Solidago flexicaulis.
