Habitat:
Frequent on a large sand terrace that extends 260 feet up the base of 480-foot, north- to west-facing bluffs. Degraded barrens prairie / oak savanna recovering from past grazing. Full sun to partial shade of Juniperus virginiana, Quercus velutina, and occasional Pinus banksiana. Forming loose clumps in level to gently-sloping, deep, silty-sand.
