Locality: United States, Minnesota, Fillmore, Rugged forested terrain along the Root River two miles southwest of Rushford, two miles east-northeast of Peterson.

Habitat: Frequent on a large sand terrace that extends 260 feet up the base of 480-foot, north- to west-facing bluffs. Degraded barrens prairie / oak savanna recovering from past grazing. Full sun to partial shade of Juniperus virginiana, Quercus velutina, and occasional Pinus banksiana. Forming loose clumps in level to gently-sloping, deep, silty-sand.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carex siccata, C. muehlenbergii, C. backii, C. pensylvanica, Poa compressa, P. pratensis, Dichanthelium oligosanthes, Lithospermum caroliniense, Euphorbia corollata, Solidago nemoralis, Hedyotis longifolia, Rumex acetosella.
