United States, Minnesota, Fillmore, Rugged forested terrain along the Root River two miles southwest of Rushford, two miles east-northeast of Peterson.
Local on the upper portion of a large, sloping sand terrace that extends 250 feet up the base of 480-foot bluffs. Occasional to frequent in portions of a fairly extensive (~40-acre) degraded and overgrown oak barrens. Full sun to partial shade of Quercus velutina, Juniperus virginiana, and Pinus banksiana. In open sand on the terrace; similarly in wind-blown sand that covers a portion of the steep upper slope of a west-facing bluff.
Associates include Carex siccata, Poa compressa, Koeleria macrantha, Euphorbia corollata, Campanula rotundifolia, Viola pedata, Helianthemum canadense, Juniperus communis.
