Locality: United States, Minnesota, St. Louis, Rolling to fairly rugged terrain south of Highway 169, eight miles southwest of Ely, along the canoe access foot path connecting the Purvis Lake Forest Road to the north shore of Purvis Lake.

Habitat: Uncommon and local in a small patch of mesic hardwood forest. Canopy dominated by maturing Betula papyrifera. Patchy understory of Prunus virginiana, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, and Corylus cornuta. Loose colony of a few large plants in a ~½-acre area. Loamy soil with a thin organic cap. Level to gently-sloping settings.
Associated Species: Associates include Uvularia grandiflora, Maianthemum canadense, Circaea lutetiana, Osmorhiza claytonii, Aster macrophyllus, Aralia nudicaulis, Pteridium aquilinum, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Carex pedunculata.
