Occasional to frequent on the margins of a small (one-acre) bog pond, in a ~150-acre peatland (mostly a stunted spruce bog). Growing singly or in loose colonies, in a rather broad zone (1-2 acres) of quite low-statured ground layer vegetation dominated by Rhynchospora alba. Eriophorum virginicum is itself somewhat stunted in the subtly lower and wetter depressional settings which extend ~50 yards from the pond. Wet spongy peat. Continuous Sphagnum carpets. Full sun to partial shade of stunted Picea mariana.
