Local on the north side of a small (~20-acre) boggy lake. Occasional small, loose patches encountered in a zone of poor conifer swamp ~150 feet from the upland margin, and ~300 feet from the lake. Partial shade of stunted Picea mariana, Larix laricina, Betula papyrifera, and Pinus strobus. Amongst a dense ericaceous layer of Ledum groenlandicum, Kalmia polifolia, Chamaedaphne calyculata, and Vaccinium oxycoccos. In Sphagnum carpets; mostly on hummocks. Saturated peat.
Additional associates include Gaultheria hispidula, Vaccinium angustifolium, V. myrtilloides, Smilacina trifolia.
