Habitat:
Locally abundant in the trail corridor (which is an old road here) where it cuts through mesic and wet forest. Partial shade of Abies balsamea, Populus tremuloides, Betula papyrifera, Picea glauca, P. mariana, and Alnus incana. Dense clumps; often in fairly dense patches. Moist, gravelly, sandy loam with a shallow organic cap in wetter spots.
