Locality: United States, Minnesota, Koochiching, Near the shore of Lost Lake, in an extensive peatland complex 25 miles southeast of Baudette, 27 miles northwest of Big Falls.

Habitat: Local at the edge of an extensive spruce bog forest, ~50 yards from the east side of this 18-acre lake. A rather small infestation patch occurs here on both sides of a narrow winter road corridor. On twigs and young branches of somewhat stunted Picea mariana. Forming quite large "brooms" on some trees. Full sun to partial shade. Deep, saturated peat. Continuous Sphagnum carpets.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Ledum groenlandicum, Larix laricina, Vaccinium oxycoccos, V. vitis-idaea, V. myrtilloides, Carex trisperma.
