Locality: United States, Minnesota, Fillmore, Along the South Fork of the Root River in rugged terrain two miles east of Choice, ten miles south of Rushford.

Habitat: Uncommon and local on the steep lower portion of an extremely steep, west- to southwest-facing, 300-foot bluff. Loose colony of several hundred plants on the margin of a bluff prairie, where it grades to degraded woods. Partial shade of Juniperus virginiana, Physocarpus opulifolius, Lonicera xbella, Cornus racemosa, Viburnum lentago, and Rhamnus cathartica. Rocky silt. Some plants with clusters of small basal leaves.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Ratibida pinnata, Rubus strigosus, Symphyotrichum oolentangiense, Sorghastrum nutans, Bouteloua curtipendula, Zanthoxylum americanum.
