Habitat:
Uncommon and quite local along the margin of a beaver meadow. Upland setting on a gentle southerly slope, just above the elevation of the wetland. Full sun to partial shade of Abies balsamea, Picea mariana, and P. glauca. Sandy-loam, with thick duff layer. A couple small, loose patches, with a total of several dozen vertical shoots.
Associated Species:
Associates include Vaccinium myrtilloides, Diervilla lonicera, Cornus canadensis, Lycopodium clavatum, Aster macrophyllus, Clintonia borealis, Coptis groenlandica.
