Locality: United States, Minnesota, St. Louis, Strongly rolling forested terrain west of Ash Lake, eight miles north-northeast of the town of Nett Lake, 14 miles northwest of Orr.

Habitat: Uncommon and quite local along the margin of a beaver meadow. Upland setting on a gentle southerly slope, just above the elevation of the wetland. Full sun to partial shade of Abies balsamea, Picea mariana, and P. glauca. Sandy-loam, with thick duff layer. A couple small, loose patches, with a total of several dozen vertical shoots.
Associated Species: Associates include Vaccinium myrtilloides, Diervilla lonicera, Cornus canadensis, Lycopodium clavatum, Aster macrophyllus, Clintonia borealis, Coptis groenlandica.
