Locality: United States, Minnesota, St. Louis, Strongly rolling forested terrain west of Ash Lake, eight miles north-northeast of the town of Nett Lake, 14 miles northwest of Orr.

Habitat: Infrequent on the gentle westerly slope of a broad, 70-foot high, bedrock ridge. Upland cedar forest dominated by Thuja occidentalis, and scattered Betula papyrifera, Populus tremuloides, Picea glauca, and occasional old-growth Pinus strobus. Patchy Abies balsamea in the understory. Mostly shaded, mesic setting. Sandy-loam with a dark organic cap. Thick duff. Forming loose patches.
Associated Species: Associates include Maianthemum canadense, Lycopodium clavatum, Spinulum annotinum, Dendrolycopodium dendroideum, Chimaphila umbellata, Trientalis borealis, Clintonia borealis.
