Locality: United States, Minnesota, St. Louis, Strongly rolling forested terrain west of Ash Lake, six miles north of the town of Nett Lake, 14 miles northwest of Orr.

Habitat: Locally abundant along a two-track forest road (old logging road) through mesic aspen-birch forest. Full sun to partial shade of Populus tremuloides, Betula papyrifera, and Abies balsamea. Forming dense and often quite extensive linear patches along the edge of the road. Mesic settings, and not much extending into wetter zones including the subtle lower and wetter roadside "ditch". Compacted sandy loam. Plants are commonly 48-66 inches tall.
Associated Species: Associates include Trifolium pratense, Phleum pratense, Agrostis alba, Lycopus americana, Cicuta maculata, Alnus incana.
