At the margin of a mesic deciduous forest where it borders an old field.

Description:
A thicket-forming shrub 2.9 meters tall, with multiple stems each 5-6 cm in dia. Stamens ca 20, anthers white. Thorns all simple, long and distinctly hooked; Fr mostly red; L=8.0-9.5 mm, W=7.5-9.5 mm. Nutlets 3 (occ 2)
