Habitat: In a closed-canopy oak-aspen woodland (bur oak and trembling aspen).
Associated Species: Associated with Cornus foemina ssp. racemosa, Prunus virginiana, Corylus americana, Crataegus chrysocarpa, C. macracantha.
Description: A small single-stemmed upright tree with ascending branches. . Stamens ca 20, anthers pink. No compound thorns, simple thorns relatively small 4 meters tall, and 7 cm dbh; Est 3-4 days before anthesis (spring about 1 1/2 weeks late)
