Habitat: Strongly-rolling forested moraine ... tamarack swamp in ~20-acre basin ... Canopy fairly dense, dominated by mature Larix laricina. Open understory ... on raised substrate areas around tree bases, along decaying old boles, and other types of peaty hummocks. In Sphagnum spp. and other mosses. Associated species include Carex leptalea, C. disperma, C. gynocrates, C. aurea, C. interior, Rubus pubesces, Thelypteris palustris, Corallorhiza trifida, Platanthera aquilonis, Liparis loeselii, Viola incognita, Pyrola asarifolia, Saxifraga pennsylvanica, Rhamnus alnifolia, Lonicera villosa, Ribes hirtellum, Toxicodendron rydbergii.
