Habitat: In open treeless area between bands of tamarack. In rich fen dominated by Carex lasiocarpa, Carex chordorrhiza and Carex prairea.
Substrate: On saturated, fibric peat.
Associated Species: With Carex limosa, Eriophorum gracile, Equisetum fluviatile and Galium labradoricum.
