Field Description: Habit: Gregarious. Basidiocarp: PILEUS: Shape: Convex. Breadth: 2.9-3.3 cm. Color: Moderate reddish Brown. Changes: None. Surface: Dry to slightly viscid, glabrous, slightly rimose on disc when mature, margin even and appendiculate. Flesh: Consistency: Soft. Thickness: 5-6 mm. Color: Pale Yellow. Changes: Instantly bluing. Odor: Slight, not distinctive. Taste: Mild, pleasant, not distinctive. HYMENOPHORE: Attachment: Uncinate when mature. Length: 4 mm. Color: Brilliant Yellow. Changes: Bluing; overnight brownish Orange. Edges (Color & Shape): Concolorous, bluing, even. Spacing & pattern: Round to elongate, 2/mm, in single, still maturing fruitbody. STIPE: Shape: Equal to enlarged downward. Size: 4.8-5.0 x 0.6-0.8 above, 0.8-1.0 cm below. Surface: Dry, strongly striate to subtomentose base. Color: Brilliant Orange Yellow at apex, then streaked with brilliant Orange Yellow and moderate reddish Orange; base dull brownish. Changes: NA. Flesh color: Brilliant Yellow. MICROSCOPIC ANALYSIS: Basidiospores from thin spore print (x520, 5% KOH) subfusiform to nearly oblong-elliptical, smooth, without germ pore, small hilar appendix, pale brownish, profile: 10.2-11.4 (-12.0) x 3.6-4.8 µm (n=20). Pileipellis from radial section near center of pileus, revived in 5% KOH (x520) a trichoderm, a layer of tightly packed, upright filaments a few cells long with smooth outer walls, hyaline or very pale yellowish, mainly uninflated filaments up to 7.2 µm wide, with obtuse or tapered terminal cells, the latter rarely inflated.
