Habitat: Rugged terrain...thin, rocky soil over gabbro outcrops on upper portion of steep, 140-foot, south-facing slope...In full sun to partial shade of shrubs and small trees including Prunus virginiana, Populus tremuloides, Rosa acicularis, Rhus glabra, Amelanchier sp. Additional associates include Calystegia spithamea, Achillea millefolium, Fragaria virginiana, Geranium bicknellii, Danthonia spicata, Woodsia ilvensis, Antennaria neglecta, Arabis drummondii, Apocynum androsaemifolium, Selaginella rupestris, Schizachne purpurascens, Diervilla lonicera.
