Description: "The specimens presented here are somewhat different from these two in in the leaves due to a somewhat narrower cell network and strongly rolled edges in the middle part, but no essential differences can be found, leaf cross-section, brood bodies, etc. are correct. It also reveals the Styrian plant in many ways [?] on and near the Norwegian at least there are hints of it from time to time. This has considerably shorter and broader leaves, but its cellular network is as little smooth - at least in the chlorophyll-free parts - as in the Central European specimens; the papillary covering may perhaps be the strongest in our plant. Well-developed, fruiting Didymodon rigidulus Hedw. also grows at their location in the front, more exposed part of the cavity. The transitions between the two plants standing close to one another could not simply be understood as "forma cavernarum" of D. rigidulus, they are also significant; the close relationship of the two species, however, can hardly be doubted. A plant I received from P. Culmann with the name "Barbula verbana - mortar of silicate walls near Breganzone, 400m, Canton Ticino, April 7 1914 - closely related to Barbula rigidula" seems to me to be even closer to D. glaucus. This could perhaps be regarded as D. glaucus growing in an exposed, sunny location and therefore forming compact, brownish-green, short-leaved cushions."
