Habitat: Occasional of locally common, forming patches in rich srhub swamp dominated by tall Betula glandulifera & Salix petiolaris, with very widely scattered canopy of Larix laricina. Saturated, quaky, moss-covered peat substrate. Especially common in wetter depressions. Additional associates include Phragmites australis, Calamagrostis canadensis, Carex pseudocyperus, Dryopteris cristata, Equisetum fluviatile, Rubus pubescens, Aster puniceus, A. borealis, Typha sp., Eupatorium maculatum, Lysimachia thyrsiflora, Lycopus uniflorus, Cicuta bulbifera, Thelypteris palustris, Ribes hirtellum.
