Taxon: Polytrichum longisetum (Sw. ex Brid.) G.L. Sm.
Family: Polytrichaceae
Collector: Foster, A.S.   225
Date: 1906-07-26
Locality: United States, Oregon, Near Cloud Cap Inn, Mt. Hood
Elevation: 2134 meters
Verbatim Elevation: 7000ft
Habitat: In ravines along timber line
Substrate: On hummus
Notes: The plants appear to have grown under the snow, which apparently had not been melted more than a month. The setae were thus twisted when found. The robust, sterile plant grew beside a log, protected from sliding snow. Ravines very steep and abrupt, and quite dry now, july 27. The humus was smooth and hard-solid, made so by snow.
