United States, Minnesota, Pine, Banning State Park. Along the gorge of the Kettle River in rugged terrain 1.5 miles north-northeast of Sandstone, on the west side of the river, along the lower reaches of Hell's Gate rapids.
On steep, 120-foot, east-facing bluffs. Infrequent to locally common on lower to mid-portions of 30- to 50-foot high sandstone cliffs. Small and loose to rather dense patches along horizontal crevices. Shaded beneath a patchy canopy of Betula papyrifera, B. alleghaniensis, and Pinus strobus.
Associates include Dryopteris fragrans, Polypodium virginianum, Cystopteris fragilis.
