Habitat:
Common to abundant in a series of seepage meadows perched on gentle slopes along a broad ravine, in a moderately grazed pasture. ~10 acres of seepage meadow maintained by diffuse and often subtle groundwater emergence. Fairly firm (to locally somewhat buoyant) saturated muck and mucky-silt. Full sun. Robust clumps, often with dozens of fertile culms.

Associates include Carex laevivaginata, C. hysteracina, C. granularis, C. pellita, C. stipata, C. molesta, Eleocharis erythropoda, Scirpus atrovirens, Glyceria striata, G. grandis, Juncus dudleyi, Equisetum arvense, Helenium autumnale.
