Locality: United States, Minnesota, Morrison, Along the Mississippi River 1/2 mile downstream from McDougall Island, as it cuts through sandy outwash two miles west of Royalton.

Habitat: Common on a large gravel bar exposed by receding river levels. Moist, coarse sand with a dry cap of rounded cobbles (mostly 1-5 inches in diameter), within 12 inches of the present water level. Full sun to partial shade of Acer saccharinum and Salix xrubens in the adjacent floodplain forest. Flowers white, flecked with magenta distally.
Associated Species: Associates include Agrostis scabra, Panicum philadelphicum, Amaranthus tuberculatus, Persicaria hydropiper, P. lapathifolia, P. pensylvanica, Bidens cernua, B. connata, Aster ontarionis, and seedlings of Salix interior, Acer saccharinum, Populus deltoides.
