Local on a narrow ridge spur atop 150-foot bluffs that fall steeply in two directions. A few dozen small clumps in a level to gently sloping savanna / open woodland, bordering a narrow strip of cliff-top dry prairie. Patchy canopy dominated by large, open-grown Quercus macrocarpa, also Q. rubra and Pinus strobus. Understory of Ostrya virginiana and Populus tremuloides. Partial sun. Fine sandy-silt.
