United States, Minnesota, Pine, Banning State Park. Along the Kettle River in rugged bedrock terrain ~0.75 mile north-northeast of downtown Sandstone, on the east side of the river ~0.25 mile north of the railroad trestle.

Habitat:
Uncommon to quite locally frequent along the crest of steep, 120-foot, west-facing bluffs. Partial shade in a cliff-top pine woodland. Patchy canopy dominated by mature Pinus resinosa. Patchy understory includes Betula papyrifera, Acer rubrum, and Quercus rubra. Dense, small clumps and small, loose patches in shallow organic detritus and thick needle litter over sandstone bedrock (which is frequently exposed here).
