Habitat:
Frequent on the beach in coarse, dry to moist sand (and shallow lenses of dry peat over sand), often amongst scattered pieces and small piles of driftwood. Cespitose. Full sun.

Associates include Eleocharis erythropoda, E. palustris, Carex sychnocephala, C. canescens, C. vesicaria, Scirpus cyperinus, Cyperus squarrosus, Juncus arcticus, J. alpinoarticulatus, J. nodosus, Agrostis scabra, Potentilla norvegica, P. anserina, Equisetum arvense, Cicuta bulbifera, Rumex triangulivalvis, Xanthium strumarium, Oenothera oakesiana, Lathyrus maritimus, Agalinus tenuifolia, Cirsium arvense.
