Locality: United States, Minnesota, Winona, Whitewater Wildlife Management Area. Rugged forested terrain two miles north of Utica, along the South Fork Whitewater River, downstream from Holt Spring.

Verbatim Elevation: 1090 feet
Habitat: Locally common atop a steep, 200-foot, southwest-facing bluff. Forming fairly dense patches in and near a tiny strip of overgrown bluff prairie, in a gently sloping setting just back from the top of a large (~80-foot high), dry cliff. Partial sun to fully shaded by Juniperus virginiana and J. communis. Silty soil, fairly shallow to dolomite bedrock.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carex pensylvanica, C. richardsonii, Schizachryrium scoparium, Symphoricarpos albus, Physocarpus opulifolius, Galium boreale, Anemone patens, Smilacina stellata.
