Habitat:
Common in mesic woodland. Canopy of Thuja occidentalis, Betula papyrifera, Abies balsamea, Populus tremuloides, and Picea glauca. Understory of Abies balsamea, with scattered Acer spicatum. Shade to partial sun. Growing singly; in level to sloping ridge top settings. Heavily-wormed, fine sandy-silt. Often in carpets of Pleurozium schreberi and Dicranum polysetum.
