Common in mesic woodland. Canopy of Thuja occidentalis, Betula papyrifera, Abies balsamea, Populus tremuloides, and Picea glauca. Understory dominated by Abies balsamea, with scattered Acer spicatum. Full shade to partial sun. Level to sloping settings. Heavily-wormed, fine sandy-silt. Often in carpets of Pleurozium schreberi and Dicranum polysetum.
