Locality:
United States, Minnesota, Lake of the Woods, Northwest Angle. Rolling to fairly rugged bedrock terrain on Oak Island, 11 miles east-southeast of Angle Inlet, 35 miles northeast of Warroad.

Habitat:
Uncommon and local in mesic woodland. Canopy of Thuja occidentalis, Betula papyrifera, Abies balsamea, Populus tremuloides, and Picea glauca. Understory of Abies balsamea, with scattered Acer spicatum. Full shade to partial sun. Level to sloping settings. Heavily-wormed, fine sandy-silt. Often in carpets of Pleurozium schreberi and Dicranum polysetum.

Additional associates include Diphasiastrum complanatum, Dendrolycopodium dendroideum, Lycopodium lagopus, Clintonia borealis, Aralia nudicaulis, Cornus canadensis, Platanthera hookeri.
