Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake of the Woods, Northwest Angle. Rolling to fairly rugged bedrock terrain on Oak Island, 11 miles east-southeast of Angle Inlet, 35 miles northeast of Warroad.

Habitat: Infrequent and local in mesic woodland. Canopy of Thuja occidentalis, Betula papyrifera, Abies balsamea, and Picea glauca. Understory of Abies balsamea, with scattered Acer spicatum. Shade to partial sun. Forming small loose patches in level to sloping ridge top settings. Heavily-wormed, rocky, sandy-silt. Often in carpets of Pleurozium schreberi and Dicranum polysetum.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Lycopodium lagopus, Huperzia lucidula, Pteridium aquilinum, Diphasiastrum complanatum, Platanthera hookeri, Cornus canadensis.
