Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake of the Woods, Northwest Angle. Rolling to fairly rugged bedrock terrain on Oak Island, 11 miles east-southeast of Angle Inlet, 35 miles northeast of Warroad.

Habitat: Local in mesic woodland. Canopy of Thuja occidentalis, Abies balsamea, Betula papyrifera, and Populus tremuloides. Understory of Abies balsamea, with scattered Acer spicatum. Full shade to partial sun. Heavily-wormed, fine sandy-silt. Forming rather large, dense patches in a level ridge top setting.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Clintonia borealis, Maianthemum canadense, Cornus canadensis, Diphasiastrum xzeilleri, Rubus pubescens, Linnaea borealis, Aralia nudicaulis, Oryzopsis asperifolia.
