Locality: United States, Minnesota, Morrison, Crane Meadows State Wildlife Management Area, Crane Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. Along the lower reaches of Buckman Creek, on level to gently rolling outwash plain five miles west-northwest of Buckman, seven miles northeast of Royalton.

Habitat: Local along the broad ecotonal margin of a sedge meadow, adjacent to a sandy upland. Partial sun to shaded by Alnus incana and Populus tremuloides. Wet, shallow, mucky-organic layer over sand. Rather dense, robust clumps; larger ones somewhat hummock-forming, with 50-100+ fertile culms.
Associated Species: Associates include Calamagrostis canadensis, Carex buxbaumii, C. haydenii, C. stricta, Thelypteris palustris, Onoclea sensibilis, Lysimachia thyrsiflora, Campanula aparinoides.
