Locality: United States, Minnesota, Morrison, Rice-Skunk Wildlife Management Area, Crane Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. Level to gently rolling outwash plain six miles southwest of Pierz, seven miles southeast of Little Falls.

Habitat: Local along the margins of a small (~1/8-acre) vernal wetland surrounded by oak woodland, on a sandy rise in an extensive wet meadow - marsh complex. Partial shade of Populus tremuloides, Quercus ellipsoidalis, and Q. macrocarpa. Moist sand with a shallow organic cap. Loose colonies here. Dense clumps, mostly with 8-15 (rarely 20+) fronds.
Associated Species: Associates include Carex vesicaria, C. haydenii, Calamagrostis canadensis, Impatiens capensis, Persicaria sagittata, Thelypteris palustris, Equisetum sylvaticum, Lycopus americanus, Spiraea alba.
