Locality: United States, Minnesota, Stearns, St. Wendel Swamp. On the shores of Swamp Lake, in a large peatland complex four miles northwest of St. Joseph, four miles east-northeast of Avon.

Habitat: Common in a broad zone of rich shore fen that surrounds the shallow, 30-acre lake. Full sun. Quite buoyant wet peat. Forming rather dense patches, especially near the water's edge. [Atypically wide and soft culms, ~approaching E. palustris.]
Associated Species: Associates include Carex diandra, C. lasiocarpa, C. lacustris, C. comosa, Cicuta bulbifera, Sagittaria latifolia, Thelypteris palustris, Potentilla palustris, Typha xglauca, Utricularia intermedia, U. vulgaris.
