Locality: United States, Minnesota, Stearns, St. Wendel Swamp. Large peatland complex, on rolling till plain 4.5 miles northwest of St. Joseph, 4.5 miles east-northeast of Avon.

Habitat: Frequent in a rather large (~10-acre) spring fen, along a broad water tract that bisects a large tamarack swamp. Full sun to partial shade of small Larix laricina. Buoyant, saturated peat. Small, loose groups of fertile culms.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Cladium mariscoides, Trichophorum cespitosum, Carex limosa, C. lasiocarpa, C. livida, C. chordorrhiza, C. sterilis, Eriophorum gracile, Schoenoplectus acutus, Pedicularis lanceolata, Parnassia glauca, Solidago uliginosa.
