Habitat:
Frequent in a rather large (~10-acre) spring fen, along a broad water tract that bisects a large tamarack swamp. Full sun to partial shade of small Larix laricina. Buoyant, saturated peat. Small, loose groups of fertile culms.

Additional associates include Cladium mariscoides, Trichophorum cespitosum, Carex limosa, C. lasiocarpa, C. livida, C. chordorrhiza, C. sterilis, Eriophorum gracile, Schoenoplectus acutus, Pedicularis lanceolata, Parnassia glauca, Solidago uliginosa.
