United States, Minnesota, Stearns, St. Wendel Swamp. Large peatland complex, on rolling till plain 4.5 miles northwest of St. Joseph, 4.5 miles east-northeast of Avon.

Habitat:
Common in a rather large (~10-acre) spring fen, along a broad water tract that bisects a large tamarack swamp. Full sun to partial shade of small Larix laricina. Buoyant, saturated peat. Forming tall, dense hummocks with dozens of fertile culms, raised to 12+ inches above the water-filled hollows.

Additional associates include Cladium mariscoides, Eriophorum gracile, Carex lasiocarpa, C. livida, C. limosa, C. chordorrhiza, C. sterilis, Menyanthes trifoliata, Parnassia glauca, Solidago uliginosa, Sarracenia purpurea, Betula pumila, Ribes hirtellum, Andromeda glaucophylla.
