Locality: United States, Minnesota, Stearns, St. Wendel Swamp. Large peatland complex, on rolling till plain 4.5 miles northwest of St. Joseph, 4.5 miles east-northeast of Avon.

Habitat: Common in degraded portions of a rather large spring fen that are succeeding to tamarack swamp. Patchy, short canopy of immature Larix laricina. Partial sun. Dense, robust hummocks, often with dozens of culms. Forming the dominant ground layer cover locally. Moderately buoyant, deep, saturated peat.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Schoenoplectus acutus, Carex lasiocarpa, Phragmites australis ssp. americanus, Calamagrostis stricta, Caltha palustris, Rubus pubescens, Triglochin maritima, Salix candida, Betula pumila.
