Habitat:
Sporadic, locally frequent on a steep, north- to northeast-facing, 30-foot slope that forms the riverbank. In a narrow strip of degraded mesic hardwoods. Canopy of Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Quercus macrocarpa, Q. alba, Tilia americana, and Betula papyrifera. The understory includes Rhamnus cathartica, Ostrya virginiana, Prunus virginiana, and Lonicera xbella. Dark loamy sand. Orange sap.

Associates include Carex pensylvanica, C. pedunculata, C. sprengelii, C. blanda, Solidago flexicaulis, Smilacina stellata, Galium triflorum, Arenaria lateriflora, Cystopteris tenuis, Symphoricarpos albus.
