Locality: United States, Minnesota, Stearns, on the edge of Happy Valley State Wildlife Management Area. Rolling till plain just east of the South Two River, 2.5 miles northeast of Holdingford.

Habitat: Uncommon and sporadic in mesic hardwood forest variously dominated by Populus tremuloides, Tilia americana, Fraxinus nigra, F. pennsylvanica, Quercus macrocarpa, and Acer saccharum. Understory includes Ostrya virginiana, Ulmus americana, and scattered Rhamnus cathartica. Level to gently sloping settings. Rich silty-loam. Loosely cespitose. Maroon basal sheaths.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carex hirtifolia, C. blanda, C. assiniboinensis, Cryptotaenia canadensis, Maianthemum canadense, Claytonia virginica, Galium aparine, Lilium michiganense.
